Letter to the editor by Mel Beaty (Medford, Oregon), includes “Ugh! According to the website ‘Truth in Accounting,’ the total unfunded U.S. debt (on an individual basis, i.e., every man woman and child) is currently at $855,000. I don’t know about you, but my wife and I would be hard pressed to come up with a very small fraction of that. I’m beginning to think that there is not one intact, functioning brain in all of Congress. I think we need to ban politicians from access to the printing presses and make them take remedial accounting classes. Couldn’t hurt.”
